APIDA Amplified Project Director

Dr. Kar is an Assistant Professor in the Ethnic Studies Department and the Project Director of the Fullerton College APIDA Amplified Team. She is proud to serve students as an Ethnic Studies tenure-track faculty member after working at Fullerton College for several years. Dr. Kar is a second-generation South Asian American of Sindhi and Bengali ancestry. In 2023, she was selected as Fullerton College’s Faculty of the Year! 

Dr. Kar holds a B.A. in Literatures of the World from UC San Diego, an M.A. in Comparative Literature and a Ph.D. in Comparative Literature, with doctoral emphases in Feminist Studies and Asian American Studies from UC Santa Barbara. She enjoys spending time with her family and feline overlords, and working in her garden. 

Rachel Reyes (they/them)

Rachel earned their Master’s in Social Work from CSU Long Beach, their Post-Baccalaureate Certificate in Psychological Sciences from UC Irvine, and their Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering from UC Santa Barbara. As a second-generation Filipino American, Rachel aims to uplift APIDA students and all Students of Color at Fullerton College through culturally responsive programs that build and celebrate our communities. 

Rachel previously served as a Mental Health Clinician, Master’s in Social Work Intern at Long Beach City College, and continues to support the wellness of diverse and vibrant college student populations in their current role as APIDA Amplified Program Director. Rachel grew up in Orange County, California, and enjoys rock climbing, ceramics and crochet, and finding good restaurants. 

Camille Serrano (she/they)

APIDA Amplified Special Projects and Communications Manager

Camille is a woman of color with a background working in advocacy nonprofits and political campaigns. During the 2022 election, Camille assisted in social media for Beto O’Rourke and digital fundraising for Lina Hidalgo. Before campaigns, Camille worked for IGNITE National curating programs that encourage civic engagement among BIPOC women.  

Born and raised in Southern California, Camille attended Fullerton College and transferred to UCLA with a full scholarship. In 2025, Camille earned her Master’s in Communication at Johns Hopkins University. As a proud Korean Pilipina, Camille is a firm believer in utilizing the digital space to mobilize and empower disenfranchised communities on the path to social change.

Yasmine Garcia is a Political Science major here at Fullerton College who hopes to transfer to UCLA or UCI next year. After transferring she would like to continue her education at a law school for corporate or tax law as she is currently studying to take the LSAT. She is really excited to be a part of APIDA Amplified this semester. She hopes to help reach more students on campus to showcase the resources offered at the APIDA Resource Center and to interact more with her peers! In her free time she enjoys hanging out with her friends, trying new coffee and dessert shops, and going to concerts. Her favorite coffee shops are MADE and Habibi’s Cafe in Fullerton and her current favorite artist is Playboi Carti. She is so excited to be joining us as a student assistant this semester!

Madelyn is a two-year student at Fullerton College, planning to transfer to CSULB in fall 2026 with an Interdisciplinary Studies emphasis in Arts and Human Expression. Madelyn loves making friends, being a part of the community through organizations like Vietrise and VROC, and exploring Orange County. Madelyn has written for Fullerton College’s school magazine Inside Fullerton for two semesters and is currently an editor. On her days off, you can find her at Tierra Mia with a guava cheese pastry and a hot chocolate in hand.
